The Oak Cancer Centre formally opened today, funded by The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, a research and treatment facility that will help to accelerate the development of new treatments. The Oak Cancer Centre, in London, will enable clinicians to diagnose more cancers at an earlier stage and has been designed to enhance patients’ experiences while undergoing treatment.
The Suliman S. Olayan Foundation was proud to support this project by providing funding to build the Olayan Day Care Unit, designed to create an optimum treatment experience for patients.
With 66 treatment bays, five en-suite single rooms, two counselling rooms, and treatment preparation rooms, the new unit is over 40% larger than the previous facilities and is expected to serve around 11,000 patients a year.
‘The Olayan Group is committed through its philanthropy to leaving the world better for future generations, and this groundbreaking new facility is evidence of that commitment,’ said Nadim Tabbara, Chair of the Advisory Committee, Suliman S. Olayan Foundation (Liechtenstein).
Support for Royal Marsden’s Oak Cancer Centre is the latest example of The Olayan Group’s abiding support for health care, medicine, and biomedical research.
‘The Foundation is honoured to support this world-renowned healthcare institution, something which reflects our founder’s interest in and promotion of advancements in medical science,’ said Lubna Olayan, President of the Foundation Council.
The Royal Marsden opened in 1851 as the world’s first hospital dedicated to cancer diagnosis, treatment, research and education. Today it operates as a specialist cancer hospital and National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre for Cancer, working closely with its principal academic partner, the Institute of Cancer Research, London (ICR).
