Lubna Olayan Receives Honorary Degree in Dublin
Lubna Olayan, a director of The Olayan Group and head of its Middle East operations, was presented with an honorary degree of Doctor in Laws (LL.D) at Trinity College (The University of Dublin, Ireland) on July 1.
Former president of Ireland and chancellor of the university, Dr. Mary Robinson, bestowed an honorary doctorate on Ms. Olayan and two other awardees – Irish educator Michael Johnston and six-time British Open squash champion, Jonnah Barrington.
The doctoral citation salutes Ms. Olayan as “one of the most influential businesswomen in the world, a role model for women in the Middle East, a patron of progress in the name of equality and respect for each and everyone’s identity.”
The citation also states: “Her heart beats for her own Arab world and for the recognition of its true and good values; her father once inspired her to preserve them, her children now inspire her to promote them.”
Lubna Olayan is deputy chairperson and CEO of Riyadh-based Olayan Financing Company.
